Updates to the Flash Embed application

Based on requests from users, I’ve now made the Flash Embed Facebook application much more user-friendly. Now, instead of entering in the Flash animation details manually, you can paste in a Flash embed code, and everything should be detected automatically. I tested this with some YouTube videos, CollegeHumor videos, and Miniclip.com games, and it all seems to be working fine :)

As usual, please report any bugs here as a comment, or via email.

  3. Daniel15 Says:

    Hi,
That code is not Flash code; it’s simply a link. Flash code starts with <object and ends with </object>. You’ll need to get a proper Flash embed code if you want to use it
    Hope this helps :)

do i always end up with a grey screen on my profile, that says click to play… couldn’t it just be the screen that appears after the click to play, which is the screen of the video. instead of an empty screen..??

  5. cirdec Says:

main page doesn’t reflect/update after deleting SWF from application

  6. Daniel15 Says:

pedro, the “Click to play” thing is a Facebook limitation. Facebook requires an image to be displayed, and you need to click the image to display the movie. It can’t be a frame of the movie itself, unless you take a screenshot or something.

cirdec, this bug has now been fixed. If any videos that you’ve removed still appear on your profile, click the “Edit” link next to any video on your profile, and then click “Save changes” without changing anything. This should update the box on your profile, and will remove any deleted videos.

Hey, great app, was EXACTLY what i was looking for.

One thing though - any chance you can implement a “share” feature, so that i can post it on my profile or bulk message friends about it?

  13. Daniel15 Says:

@Antonio Fanzio: You’ll need to upload your Flash file to a web host or file host like fileden.com, and then use its URL to add it to your profile.

@Lihay: That’s a good idea (ability to order the Flash animations), I’ll consider implementing it when I have more time :)

@JLM: You can use whatever image you like. Just upload it to an image host (eg. http://www.imageshack.ws), and then use the image URL in the “Image URL” field when you add or edit the animation.
And I might make the source available one day, but not at the moment. I still need to clean it up a bit :)

@Alex: I’m not exactly sure how I’d implement a “share” feature, but I’ll try to remember to look into it when I have more time :)

  16. Tolu Says:

Hello there, i’ve added the embed app, and im trying to play this http://www.dijinamana.co.uk/apps/city.swf .

    using this code in flashembed

The initial image works fine, but then when i click on it, all i get is a white screen instead of the animation. I’ve tried with several other files.

I am using flash 8 - am i supposed to be using any particular version of flash? what else could be wrong?

  17. Tolu Says:

sorry for the multiple posts,…your site wont let me paste my code so i’ve put it up here: http://www.dijinamana.co.uk/apps/code.html
but i’ve removed a few ‘<’s from the lines of code so it shows as text instead of running as code. Dont want to spam your site so please feel free to delete my comments once done.

  18. Daniel15 Says:

Tolu, your code has “city scroll camera project.swf” as the movie name. You’ll need to change it to the full URL to the Flash animation (http://www.dijinamana.co.uk/apps/city.swf)

    Does this help you?

  19. MS Says:

    Hi Daniel,

I am planning to create Flash App for Facebook.
Currently thr are two ways to do it.
    1. Use Iframe 2. Use FBML.
If i plan to use iFrame .. how should i got ahead on it. Do you have any tutorials which helps in setting up my app.?

    Thanks in advance.

    MS

  20. Daniel15 Says:

MS, take a look at http://developer.facebook.com/. That’s the Facebook developers page. There’s a tutorial at http://developer.facebook.com/step_by_step.php.

My application (it’s at http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?api_key=fa3e01813e0bb57df6c615a84f3e6838) uses FBML. Even if you use an iframe for the application itself, you’ll still need to use FBML for the profile box.

Hi - is this for pages or profiles only? I’m running a page and flash embed (by facebook) lets me put a flash file, but it strips out my getURL action code - wow on that! any ideas on ways around that? i’ve tried this ap, but it only shows up on my profile - profile only?? what would be an example of a variable to enter? thanks

I have a swf flash video posted…but it doesn;t show the controls on my page. (ClearOverAll.swf)

    how come?

  23. Petit Says:

    Hi,
    It’s looking really good.
Adding my Mosnaps viewer was a breeze - thanks!

One thing I was wondering about:
I realize that keeping the name of the application as a title, is good for promotion. In my case I include a viewer for mobile snapshots, and I would like to rather have the title “Mobile snapshots”.

    Would that be possible?
    Keep up the good work!

    Chhers!
    /Petit

Thank you for this app. I just have a question. how can re-arrange the flash animations once I have more than one? I want to place the latest one on top but I always get them in a random place. Thanks.
