Facebook Flash Embed app - News and Updates section

Thanks to everyone that’s been testing my “Flash Embed” Facebook application and reporting problems to me. I’ve added a “Latest News and Updates” section to the application, so users are able to quickly see the latest updates. The bugs that have been reported so far are:

  • The animations display with a transparent background, even if a background colour has been specified in the Flash animation. [Unconfirmed]
  • The icon for the application does not have a transparent background. [Fixed on 2nd October 2007]
  • The dimensions of the Flash animation need to be entered manually. I’m not quite sure how to fix this, though (as I don’t think there’s a way to automatically detect how big the animation is).

If you find a bug in the application, please tell me about it (either by posting a comment here, or emailing me at facebook -[at]- daniel15.com)

Thanks guys! :)

I was wondering if you could integrate a way to rearrange the order of your flash files. For example, it automatically places the most recently added .swf on top of all the previously added .swf urls and I wanted the capability to move them around and choose which one I want to be displayed first. Is this possible?

    Hi ..

Firstly - great little app - thanks

    Secondly - I have a problem …

Take a look at this flash file here …

    http://thelottery.squarespace.com/

You can see it plays great with no problems and the important this is that the background of the animation is BLUE ALL THE TIME

However when I try to embed it into FB via Flash Embed - it makes the background of the animation completely white.

here is the code I am pasting in …

As you can see I am keeping it simple!

I have tried using wmode to opaque the background, bgcolor to set the color even tried emebedding it into a table to give it the right background color but nothing works.

It plays OK everywhere else and my other flash files are ok on my profile (Ray St.Clair)

    HEEEEELLLPP!

    Thanks

    Ray

  5. Matthew Says:

Is it possible to enable auto-play?

  6. john Says:

    Hello,
Everyones talking about this great app that lets you add flash to your facebook but i cant find a single link on your site to whatever this app is. Could anyone help me locate it please?

  7. Antoine GIRAUDO Says:

    Nice Add!,
i would like once a first movie is loaded to could reedit it in the code first panel and not only with a simplified one. For example i would like to centerized the animation and i must add it manually, so i will delete it to reenter it again with.
Another remark is that the “Flash Var” line is very important for the debug on facebook i think.

    Regards for this App!

  8. eric Says:

Where does one find this app? There is no link?!?!?!

  9. Mark Says:

I am really dissapointed in this app.

    1) Title!?!?!

Why on earth would I want a title? it completely ruins the design of my flash movie and the cleanliness of it on my facebook.

    PLEASE REMOVE THIS!!

    2) Click to play!??!

Please! Please I beg you! Please remove CLICK TO PLAY! PLEASE have it load automatically.

Is this a restriction of facebook?

  10. Daniel15 Says:

    @Mark:

    1. I think the app should allow you to leave the title blank. I added the title for people that have more than one animation, and want a title above it. If you don’t want one, edit it, and leave the title blank (or you may make it a single space or something). I’ll add a proper “No title” option sometime in the future.

    2. Indeed, the “click to play” is a Facebook limitation. There’s no way around it.

  11. Caleb Says:

hey dm a dummy at computers. can you tell me how to add them in a step by step sorta way? lol

  12. brandon James Says:

i wanted to know if you could get dizzler to autoplay on facebook. dizzler, you know, free music flash application? i also have trouble displaying the image for the activation thing.

  13. Scott Says:

Hi, I’m a flash designer and developer.

A galler slideshow swf I put together to test this app is not working correctly. It requires to loadVars() a variable from an external text file and then uses the MovieClipLoader class to load external jpegs.

All the exteernal files are hosted by myself on the *same domain* as the swf and the whole thing is tested working separately from the same location as can be seen here
    http://authorcheck.aoklearning.net/content/shielagh/facebookGallery/gallerySolus.swf

albeit in fullscreen. What is the cause of this problem and is there a solution?

the application is great.. i’m an asp.net developer.. and i’m new in creating an application in facebook.. is your code confidential? can I ask your code in adding the video to your profile? I have just created an application which show various video.. and what i want is to add that video in the profile like what is done on your application.. can I ask how pls..

  15. flashWebbie2.0 Says:

Hey first I want to say awesome application!

But what I’m wondering is really what is the limit on the size of the flash file (height and width) On my facebook there seems to be a limit so I went ahead and created a sort of flash container to fit all of what I needed within the limited space. Even though my height and width are set at a much larger size the flash that I embedded seems to just get cut off. Is this a facebook limitation because of the block size limitation?

  16. flashWebbie2.0 Says:

Ok nvm I think its something wrong with my flash that’s all. I must of have scripted something wrong.

  17. flashWebbie2.0 Says:

Agh nvm it does get cut off. When I look at my profile. Do you know anyway to make the actual box in which it displays the flash larger?

  18. Daniel15 Says:

Scott: I get a 404 (File not Found) error visiting that SWF file.

Angelo: My code is in PHP, and I’m using the http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Fb:swf tag for embedding the flash animations.

flashWebbie2.0: I’m not exactly sure what the limit is, but there is a limit because of the block size. I’m not imposing any arbitrary limits; any limitations are due to Facebook itself.

  19. Russell Glover Says:

    A little request

Would it be possible to add a function to change the order that flash anims are placed rather than automatically at the bottom.

And, in the preview we do not appear to have to click the anims to activate them, but we do in our own profiles. Is it possible to have this on our profiles page or not?

    Thanks, Russ.

Is it possible to enable auto-play?

  21. Helper Says:

Hey guys, if you want your flash to look right on facebook, manually set the flash embed ap in the right profile panel and manually set each flash item to width: 389, height:308. This keeps the flash element proportionate and makes sure that the whole flash element will fit within facebook without being cut off.

  22. Helper Says:

    for youtube that is

  23. ED Says:

help! new flash embed app user deleted flash embed box from facebook profile (instead of deleting flash animation file!). how do i get the flash embed box back on my profile—i can see the preview when i add the embed code—it’s just the box under profile that i need back. thanks.

  27. ED Says:

SUBJECT: order in which the flash anims are displayed

….all morning, the order in which the flash has been placed is all over the place, first, it’s on top of the earlier ones; then i delete, and it’s in the middle; then i delete again, and it’s at the bottom!

Q? are you by chance, working on the app user having control over the ORDER the flash anims are displayed?

    thanks again!

  28. hazem raafat Says:

Nothing happend when updated flash information…still no pics to press.

  29. Marco Says:

Is there way to share the video with other facebook user? It would be good if we could send a link or post straight in someone else’s wall.
